چکیده

In this seminar report a branch of augmented reality (AR), namely, projection-based augmented reality (projected AR) is discussed. To do so four different projected AR systems are presented: Virtual Showcase, iLamp, RoomProjector and SLAMProjector. By a comparison between projected AR and hand-held seethrough displays, which have become common through the success of tablets and smart phones, it becomes apparent that these technologies well complement each other. Motivated by the question of what is needed to make a projector mobile, the presentation order of the devices is chosen with respect to their level of mobility. In this way, it is possible to illustrate how a device needs to fulfil one or more requirement to be able to work at a certain level of mobility. Thereby, the main requirements are:

Portable Projection-Based Augmented Reality

Advances in projection techniques have opened up projection-based augmented reality as a possible alternative to head mounted display technologies for creating augmented reality systems. This project aims to show the viability of projection-based augmented reality in a portable format. The system is constructed using OpenGL and commercially available hardware that demonstrates some limited form...

Projection-based Augmented Reality in Engineering Applications

Augmented Reality (AR) superimposes computer-generated graphics onto the user's view of the real world. Today, AR applications can occasionally be found in the late phases of the product development process (PDP), such as in training and in maintenance. Head-mounted displays (HMDs) are typically used for AR applications. HMDs still show deficiencies in terms of ergonomics and image quality. Loo...

Real-Time Projection-Based Augmented Reality System for Dynamic Objects in the Performing Arts

This paper describes the case study of applying projection-based augmented reality, especially for dynamic objects in live performing shows, such as plays, dancing, or musicals. Our study aims to project imagery correctly inside the silhouettes of flexible objects, in other words, live actors or the surface of actor’s costumes; the silhouette transforms its own shape frequently. To realize this...

Finding the Perfect Projection System - Human Perception of Projection Quality Depending on Distance and Projection Angle

In this paper we describe our approach to find the most suitable among several projection based Augmented Reality systems to display information on moveable objects in real time. After an introduction to the scenario, we describe our approach to estimate the Quality of Projection that each individual projection system can achieve. After that we describe how we compared these estimates to the pe...

Specular Reflection Elimination for Projection-Based Augmented Reality

In projection-based augmented reality, specular reflection may distract the users. This paper demonstrates that the specular reflection can be eliminated by redundantly illuminating the projection surface using multiple overlapping projectors mounted at different locations. Our initial system using two projectors is presented. The system automatically determines the pixels which include specula...
